Doctor Who, Life and Updates

For Years now I have had an almost complete collection of the Doctor Who novelization that were done by Target Publishing (nothing to do with the US retailer.) In fact I am only missing 4 of the novelizations. Mission to the Unknown and The Mutation of Time (the two Novelizations of the 12 part Daleks Masterplan from the First Doctor's era and The Happiness Patrol from the 7th Doctor's era. Oh and I still dont have two of the "Missing" 6th Doctor stories (The Ultimate Evil and Mission to Magnus) but since they were never actually broadcast they dont count as much. Other than that I have everything, the episode guides put out during the 5th Doctor's era, the Quiz books,I have it all. Hell I even have Turlough and The Earthlink Dilemma, Harry Sullivan's War and I believe I even have the Crossword Puzzle book.

Well as of yesterday, I can tick one off of my list as I received the copy of Mission to the Unknown that I had purchased on Ebay. So, this afternoon, for the first time since the mid-90's I will have a new Target novelization to read. I cant wait.

In other news, my laptop, which was purchased new in January has decided to stop working. Luckily I have a backup of the system and it is still under warranty. Unfortunately, the backup is from early August so the pictures that I uploaded since then are now lost as are the IM logs for the last year. Thank goodness for uploading pictures to Facebook.

Went and saw Alan Alda talk last week. He is a very funny man, and I am almost finished with his first book "Never have your dog stuffed: and other things I've learned"

"Penniless recently-orphaned Anne Beddingfeld witnesses a man falling to his death in a crowded London tube station. A mysterious, brown-suited man claiming to be a doctor examines the body, but drops a piece of paper that Anne picks up, with a number and "Kilmorden Castle" written on it. A famous dancer is then reported murdered, with links to the tube station victim, and Anne begins to investigate. She discovers that Kilmorden Castle is the name of a cruise boat, and backed by a newspaper magnate, sails on it to South Africa to follow the trail."

Now who else do we know who wears a brown suit and claims to be a doctor...hmm..
We know that Agatha Christie is appearing in season 4 of Doctor Who. Are they doing a quasi adaptation?

Doctor Who

well...yeah the season finale of season 3 of Doctor Who broadcast on Saturday and well...it kind of sucked... that and the news that Katherine Tate will be joining the cast for all 13 episodes next year and well... i'm kind of worried about next season.

It is especially disappointing since we had 4 of the best episodes of Doctor Who this season.

Sigh...

So to cheer myself up, I went and watched the Doctor Who serial: The Mind Robber from season 6.
Not only does it have one of the best hooks: The TARDIS crew get stuck in a world of fiction.
But it also has the best TARDIS crew: The Second Doctor, Jaime and Zoe.


Not only is it great team, but it also has one of the hottest companions of all time: Wendy Padbury as Zoe Harriott.
So yeah... anyway happy 4th of July everyone...I will have another couple of posts today... including the one month aniversery of this blog, what i did today (including watching 1776) and my review of the Showcase Presents: Legion of Superheroes

Oh My!!!!

Holy &%#@^ Shit that was amazing!!!!

There has never been an episode of anything....ever...that I have wanted to do what I did after watching Doctor Who this week. Once the preview for the next week was done the only thing I could do was laugh and giggle and scream with amazing glee.

I had said in the past that the last three episodes were some of the best I had ever seen. each week since the series returned from its Eurovision forced week off, that weeks eppisode has been some of the best television I had ever seen in my life. While Blink didn't quite reach they heights of The Family of Blood it was at least at the never of Human Natures and well... this weeks episode: Utopia... It blew any previous episode since the show has returned out of the %$^#&%^*^(% water!!!!!

It was amazing... when I have simmered down a bit I will write a properish review of the episode but for now... wow.... just wow. And this was a Russell T Davis episode which normally means that you can downgrade the quality a bit from what it would be if Cornell or Moffat were writing...

Anyway ...it was amazing!!!!

Shabbat, whether I am going to services of just having a nice dinner and relaxing.

Doctor Who: Season 3


Season 3 is currently being broadcast in the UK and I have been downloading the episodes. Over the last three weeks some of the best episodes ever have been broadcast. Interestingly all three are based on previously written stories. The Human Nature two parter (Human Nature and The Family of Blood) is, by far, the best episode of Doctor Who since the series returned, and is defiantly in the top 5 of Doctor Who stories in its 45 year history. It was also bloody scary.


Last weeks episode, guest staring the gorgeous Carey Mulligan, was an episode in which the Doctor hardly appeared, except for a couple of scenes when he used a "timy-wimy" device that could detect things and boil an egg at 20 paces. The episode, named Blink, is written by Stephan Moffat, the man who wrote Coupling and the previous three "best episodes of Doctor Who since it returned." Based on a short story written in 2006, it involves Ms Mulligans character trying the send the TARDIS back to the Doctor after he gets trapped in 1969. The Doctor sends he these messages through a variety of Paradox's and long term planning that is more the providence of his 7th incarnation.

In one short story staring that Doctor, he keeps on changing the history of one man because he will not let the Doctor either check out or return a library book. I don't remember which one it was, but no matter how much of the persons life he changed, the Doctor still could not complete his task.


The next three episodes also look amazing. Next episode guest stars Derick Jacobi, and the two part season finale not only guest stars John Simm of Life on Mars fame, but it appears that he is playing the Doctor's old advisory the Master. The finale episode is called "The Last of the Time Lords."
